I think that Alicante is an ideal location for a short break. You can find cheap flights to Alicante from many UK airports. If you want to be close to the city centre and the beach, then the Maya Hotel is ideal and it’s reasonably priced for a 3 star hotel. We stayed at the hotel for one night in 2009, when it was was the Kris Alicante Hotel. I searched for 3 nights accommodation from 20 October 2011 for two guests on sunshine.co.uk. The room only option cost £114, the B&B £129 and half board £161.
Personally, I’d ignore the room only option, as for another £2.50 per person per day you can also have a buffet breakfast. The breakfast at the hotel was very good, so I reckon it’s worth a lot more than £2.50. On this basis, I’d also be tempted by the half board option, costing another £5 per day per person for dinner, however, as we stayed on a B&B basis I can’t comment on the dinner. If you’re after value for money, then choosing half board is a good idea, but it’s also appealing to be able to eat in a different restaurant every night.
Our room at the hotel was very spacious with a large bathroom. We had a balcony with a partial sea view, but there were quite a few buildings between the hotel and the sea. The hotel had free wifi in the room with a good signal. The hotel was a bit old fashioned and felt more like a business than a leisure hotel. But quite honestly, price, cleanliness, location and free wifi are more important to me than decor or style.
It only takes about ten minutes to walk down to the prom and the beach. The old town, a fifteen minute walk from the hotel, is very pretty.
