How to make Mulled Wine

A festive classic, Christmas hasn’t begun until a few glasses of my sister-in-law’s mulled wine have been drunk.

This simple recipe is very tasty

Mulled wine

300ml (½ pint) Port

75cl Claret (Delia recommends Cabarnet Sauvignon, but each to their own)

2 Lemons – juice and zest

900ml   (1½ pints) Water

170g (6oz)  Sugar

2-3  Cinnamon sticks

  1. Pour water and sugar into a large pan and boil for 5 minutes
  2. Add the lemon juice and zest, claret, port and cinnamon sticks – heat for a few minutes (do not bring to boil)
  3. Take off the heat and strain the wine into a large punch bowl
